Self Neglect is Not a Virtue

Self Neglect is Not a Virtue

It can be hard

not to self neglect

especially when

your self-

worth

is scattered

at best

When selflessness is

the only virtue

you hold dear

ignoring the self seems

logical

optimal

Self care

self love

self worth

is so easy to give up on

Slipping away

living in self-imposed squalor

is so seductive

so simple

But self neglect is not a virtue

I am not a sin-eater

I am not a therapist

I am not a priest

I am just me

someone who needs to learn

to take better care of themself

Because I am more than what I give

because I do not deserve squalor

because self-care is a virtue
